The Penn State Alumni AssociationWhat’s been happening: Looking back on my time at PSU, I wish I would have had the foresight to investigate further, what else I could do with a BS, rather than elementary teaching. After teaching second grade in a small PA town, I opted for a teaching position back home in Erie. At that time, the facility was the most renowned center for teaching of mentally disabled, physically handicapped, hearing impaired, and the emotionally disturbed. After several years there, I relocated to Florida. (With the exception of living in Colorado for 4 yrs.), I have lived on the same avenue in St. Petersburg since 1978. My husband, of 17 years, Denis Lomax, had to take a reassignment with Continental Airlines in Denver, to return to FL. Once back here, I continued working with mentally ill folks as an MH Tech. I'd always had a keen interest in the elderly, and have been doing Home Health Care and CNA work. Recently, I was recognized by the Joslin Diabetes Center for surviving 50 years with insulin-dependent diabetes. |
